Comment By The Editor: The body of so-called civilized man is so saturated with uric acid, calcareous deposits and drugs that it is absolutely impossible to undergo complete purification even after a long fast that has caused a loss of body weight approximating 30 per cent. In cases of heavy encumbrance with foreign matter it is unwise, difficult and even dangerous to conduct a fast until the body has been entirely purified and hunger returns. Therefore, an incomplete fast is followed by crises of purification in the form of acute disease. In fact, elimination of waste products is stronger after an incomplete fast than during the fast. Hence, when nature finds it necessary to continue elimination after the fast, hunger is absent. When this is the case, it is very harmful to eat heavy protein and carbohydrate foods, such, as nuts, cereals, legumes, milk and cheese. There are no digestive juices present to digest them. Mr. Ross committed the error of eating heavy foods before he was in a condition to digest them. Hence, the food he ate fermented and putrefied and generated gases and toxins which resulted in rapid heart action, to dispose of the products of fermentation and putrefaction, and pressure in his head, as well as in a dislike for those foods which could not be digested at that time, milk, nuts and dates. When acute elimination is present and hunger is absent, nothing but diluted fruit and vegetable juices should be taken until the crisis is passed and hunger returns. By eating improper foods at the wrong time, Mr. Ross delayed his recovery greatly.

Last year I broke the fast on dried olives, walnuts, cherries and apricots (fresh), and dates; and could not tolerate unnatural foods! Now for the past two weeks food became agreeable and hunger for natural foods has returned. By natural foods I mean protein foods such as nuts and also dates are agreeable. I gain rapidly on little food. I have gained 14 pounds in past 10 days, and much of this gain was from carbohydrates as it seems I cannot tolerate more than about 35 protein grams daily, and only lately I have used this amount, as it is estimated that I need 80 protein grams daily, but protein hunger is increasing and I feel that the instinctive eating (eating according to the demand by nature) is the only true way of perfect nutrition; so long as I eat what is needed, at the proper time in the right amount and only of high quality fruits, nuts and some vegetables without cooking, seasoning or with few combinations.
