Costa Rica's Wildlife and Fauna, are the main attractions for most naturalists
Fist on the list are the birds, with almost 900 species recorded throughout the country, far more than what is found in any one of the continents of North America, Australia, or Europe. According to figures from INBio, there are more than 260 mammal species (including marine mammals), at least 65,000 classified insect species (with many thousands more remaining to be described), about 180 species of amphibians, 235 species of reptiles. About half of all reptiles are snakes, of which 18 are venomous. About 135 sweetwater fish, and 700 saltwater fish species have been recorded.
