Identification:

A large bat (largest in the New World) with brown or rust-colored headand back; one light stripe along back; long, rounded ears; long, doglike snout with prominent noseleaf; no tail; head and body length to 15cm (6in); wingspan to 80+cm (2.5ft). (Vampiro Falso).

Habitat:

Low and middle elevation forests, Caribbean and Pacific slopes; roosts in hollow trees; forages in more open areas both within and outside of forests.
