Identification:
Striking mid-sized wading bird with bluish violet head, neck, and chest; green wings; red and yellow bill; light blue forehead; yellow legs; immature bird is light brown with greenish wings; to 40 cm (16 in). (Gallina de Agua, Gallareta Morada).
Habitat:
Aquatic habitats at low and middle elevations, Caribbean and Pacilic slopes; found in marshes and along lake and pond shores.
