Largebrown hawk, 2 forms: Light form with white throat, chest with large brown band, light belly, white and grayish or brownish underwings. Dark form with dark brown throat, chest, belly; underside of wing in flight dark brown in front, grayish behind; to 53cm (21in); wingspan to 1.3m (4.3ft). (Gavilán de Swainson, Gavilán).


Usually seen soaring over northern Caribbean, southern Pacific slopes, but may be spotted countrywide. This species is a non breeding seasonal migrant.
