How we started and accumulated our Hotel-Information

Our website began in 1999 as an information guide for tourists. Agela and I thought that the first thing tourists will need coming to Costa Rica is a Hotel. We started looking through several books and guides to see if anybody had written anything specifically on Costa Rica Hotels. We only found the usual short descriptions with little practical use. The websites of the hotels usually were still worse.

The Chamber of Hotels had a list of 125 and the ICT had one of about 300. The list from the ICT mentioned how many employees and how many stars a hotel had, but not if they had warm water, private bathrooms, swimming-pools or ceiling fans etc. , so we started, sending out questionnaires by mail, by fax and by e-mail. Later we decided to drive around the country making notes and visiting many Hotels, Resorts and Lodges.

Finally, we had enough information on almost 1000 Hotels, Resorts, Cabins and Lodges in our database to start building this web site. Today it makes up an important part of this large Costa Rica Information site. Online Hotel-Reservations help producing part of the necessary income to maintain the site. Our travel-reservation department makes up for almost half of our staff. Our detailed hotel information helps to make our Tours- and Vacation-Packages as perfect as possible.



From the many letters and reservations we get, we can tell that people honour this effort. We also know that many other travel agencies are using our site if they need information about a hotel, what it looks like, or what it has to offer.

Most of our Hotel pages have a picture Gallery with up to 128 pictures, so a first time traveller gets a good feeling about how it will be there. We have visited most of the hotels listed here at least once but more likely several times. With exception of very few, we personally took the pictures, not with extreme wide angle lenses to make the rooms look larger, but still with professional land and underwater cameras.



One thing you will not find in Costa Rica is Mass Tourism and Hotels that clutter up the beautiful beaches. We all welcome you in our small paradise and want to give you our thanks for using us for your reservations.
