Warning about Criminal Webmasters!
Unfortunately, Internet Fraud is spreading in the world and is also becoming big in Costa Rica. There are multiple ways to defraud the legitimate owners of a web site. Here is an example what the webmaster of one of our tour operators and clients did. This person had the domain registered in his name and took off with all the contents. Now he is sending customers to the competitors.
What can you do about it?
Make sure there is a physical address, name, fax and telephone number on the sites you use. Make sure that there is a business with a business license behind the web site and you're not getting forwarded to some travel agents or company that must have similar scrupulous ethics. If you have doubts ask for a "Cédula Jurídica" (the local license to run a business). Make absolutely sure that the charges to your credit card are made by the same company which is also registered as the web site owner and not some unknown tour operator (check that logos, names and stationary correspond).
