Long down-curved bills
Three Ibis species related to spoonbills, have long down-curved bills, which probe the bottom of swamps, streams and ponds. The white ibis (ibis blanco; Eudocimus albus) is the most often seen, especially in the northwest and the Nicoya areas. It is white with black wing tips (seen in flight) and has a bright red bill and legs, which separate it from the green ibis (ibis verde; Mesembrinibis cayennensis), which is blackish green and more common on the Caribbean Coast.
