Pacas can remain underwater for some minutes

The pacas are closely related to the central american agouti. They look similar, except that it has white stripy marks on its sides and is twice the size of an agouti. It is common but seen less often because it is nocturnal. It has been much hunted for food and suggestions have been made that pacas might be 'farmed'. They can remain underwater for some minutes, a behavior that helped them survive hunting. They have been reported in suburban gardens in Costa Rica.
