This refuge is particularly important for the protection of sea turtles due to Camaronal beach being a nesting site for leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea), olive ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) and hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricata), the rarest of all. The beach has conserved a lot of its coastal vegetation and is very beautiful and with big waves. A grit road from Estrada Rávago near Carrillo Beach leads to this refuge.
