Central Volcanic Cordillera Conservation Area, Alajuela
It protects some remnants of vegetation of the premontane moist forest life zone. The area is very fragmented by streams, and patches of forest only occur in the upper reaches and on the edges of the streams. A grit road from the Atenas-Orotina highway leads to a tower installed by the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity on the top of the hill.
