It protects the largest remnant of very moist forest on the right bank of the San Juan river. The vegetation consists of tall forest where enormous silk cotton trees (Ceiba pentranda), black guayabo (Terminalia bucidioides), wild almond tree (Dipteryx panamensis) and cotonron (Luehea seemannii), stand out. This forest reserve should be converted to a biological reserve with the main aim of protecting the endangered green macaw (Ara ambigua).
The best way to get to know the reserve is to take a boat on the San Juan river and go along one of the countless rivers and streams that crisscross the area and discharge into this river.
