Central Pacific Conservation Area, San José

It protects part of the paramos in the highest parts of the Cordillera de Talamanca, and the oak forsests (Quercus) surrounding them. The sooty robin (Turdus nigrescens), a bird that lives in high mountain areas, is quite common there. The historic road that joins the Central valley to San Isidro de El General crosses this reserve. The 3,156 m high Vueltas Hill is situated next to the Panamerican Highway (km 74) and is an excellent look-out point covering a wide area of the country.
