Central Pacific Conservation Area, Puntarenas

It is situated in an area that is very sloping, with high precipitation, and very important for drainage basin conservation. The forests that cover most of the reserve belong to the premontane rain forest, lower montane rain forest and montane rain forest life zones. The quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno), black guan (Chamaepetes unicolor), jaguar (Panthera onca), red brocket deer (Mazama americana) and Baird’s tapir (Tapirus bairdii) are found there. A few dirt roads from Santa María de Dota permit access a little way into this reserve.
