Friendship Caribic and Friendship Atlantic Conservation Area, Cartago

It is at the northwest end of La Amistad complex. The topography of the land is quite rugged and it is partially covered in disturbed primary and secondary forests, which it is very worthwhile to protect and restore as the two rivers are part of the upper basin of the Reventazón, which is very important for hydroelectric power.

In this protected area the chestnut-headed oropendolas (Psarocolius wagleri), the emerald toucanets (Aulacorhynchus prasinus)and various species of hummingbirds are very common. A few dirt roads leave Puente Negro near Orosí and permit visitors to go a little way into this protection zone.
