History
The town was settled by people from Alajuela, San José and Heredia. The church is a tourist attraction and was constucted of irom imported from Belgium in 1897, and the alter is made of solid marble.

General Description
The land is drained by the Sarchí, Agualote, Poró and Rosales Rivers which descend from the Póas Volcano. The canton grows coffee, corn, beans and vegetables, but it was the sugarcane that contributed most to the region's prosperity.

Places of Interest
Grecia is 18km from Alajuela and is connected to it and the cantons of San Ramón, Naranjo, and Atenas by good paved roads. The Juan Castro Blanco Forest Preserve can be found there.
