History
Born in the Valley of Barva the orignally called villa Cubujuquí later Heredia grew big enough to get their beautiful church. In 1824 it became city, province and canton.

General Description
Situated in the central valley and the great planes, Heredia is the smallest Province of Costa Rica. There are lots of coffee farms and other plantaions in this fertile land. Up in the mountains at 1900m you'll find dairy- and other farms as well as mountain hotels.

Interesting Sites
The main attraction of Heredia seems to be their Church and plaza. At small distances you'll find Ojo de Agua a bathing spring adn going up, into the mountains, you'll find the best views over the central valley. Most of the canton is part of the Greater Metropolitan Area. It has the Nacional Food Distribution Center (CENADA) and the central campus of the Nacional University (UNA). Part of Braulio Carrillo Nacional Park and Cordillera Volcánica Central Forest Reserve are found here.

Climate
The climate is pleasant, specially in the summer season; the average temperatures are 22 degrees Celsius and in the summer slightly higher.
