History
This town was discovered by Juan de Cavallón in 1560. At the end of that same century the village of Pacaca was established. That town eventually became known as Villa Colon and then Ciudad Colon (in honor of Christopher Colombus). The canton´s name was later changed to Mora in honor of former Presidents.

General Description
The canton is situated between the cantons of Santa Ana and Puriscal on the northwest and west, Atenas and Alajuela on the north, and Acosta on the southeast. Most of the canton is mountainous and rough and sits on the northern slopes of Puriscal Hill.
The pricipal crop is coffeee, but sugrcane, corn, beans and cattle are also important to the economy.

Interesting Sites
Situated in a high valley surrounded by the hills of Caliente, Tigres and La Estrella, the landscape is picturesque, and the climate very pleasant. This town, still called by its old name of Pacaca, before the arrival of the Spanish explorers, had been the village of man Indian tribe, whose descendant are now scatted all throughout the surrounding hills.

Its climate is moderate in most places, but quite warm on the banks of the Virilla River.
