The Program of the Barra Honda National Park Caves Tour

If you start in Liberia

You'll be traveling past the International Airport first to Filadelfia, Santa Cruz and past Nicoya. On the way towards the bridge over the Tempisque river you'll be turning left through a picturesque small village to the park station. There you'll be told if you can drive up with your 4x4, depending on road conditions. From that half way point you'll be walk through tropical dry forests to the cave called Terciopelo

After descending about 18 Meters (50ft) down on a sturdy aluminum ladder you'll be impressed by the huge halls filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Back out in the daylight you'll proceed to a small wooden covered look-out with a breathtaking 180º view over the lowlands of the Peninsula Nicoya. The way back to your bus is easier than the way up.
