Sport Fishing in Ocotal offers some of the finest Marlin fishing there is !
Black Marlin is caught year round with the peak months between May and August. For Blue Marlin, the waters of Papagayo on the Goldcoast of Guanacaste are considered some of the finest in the world year round. Most catches are made during the month of December, January, February, March and April. Occasionally the rare striped marlin is also caught here.
The fertile fishing grounds of the Gulf of Papagayo provide year round action for approximately 25 varieties of sport fish. But it is most famous for its sail fishing from April through September. Sails are caught year round averaging 1 to 2 sails raised per day from October through March. Boat crews are experienced to assist light tackle and fly fishermen challenge these 100 pound plus fish. These same waters produce great marling catches almost every month of the year.
Apart from billfish, probably the most sought after prey for the sport fishermen is the roosterfish. More trophy-size roosters are taken from waters around Ocotal than any place in the world. Taken on live bait, 40 to 60 pound roosters, taken with certainty all year round.
If you fish at Ocotal Beach Resort for Blue Marlin, Black Marlin and Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Rooster Fish, Mahi Mahi, Pacific Mackerel, Yellow Fin Tuna, Amber Jack and much more, you will not get only excellent fishing but also excellent accommodations and service.
