Only ten people in every three million ...
The Arenal Observatory Lodge sits within 870 acres of land adjacent to the Arenal Volcano National Park. It contains 270 acres of primary rain forest with well-marked trails, 400 acres of reforestation projects, and 200 acres of working farm lands. Arenal Observatory Lodge is situated on a ridge 120 meters above Lake Arenal. The ridge rises between the Agua Caliente and Quebrada Danta rivers.
This ubication is very important, in case of a possible lava flow, which will not affect the Lodge. The lodge is within ZONE "D" Low Danger Area, near the volcano. Moreover, as prevailing winds are from the East, the lodge would seldom be affected by ash or other fallout from a major eruption, as the lodge is located to the southeast of the volcano.
It is estimated that only ten people in every three million will ever have the opportunity of seeing a volcanic eruption in their lifetime, while only four persons in three million will ever view an active lava flow. Become one of those ten in three million.
Lots of tours and activities start at the Arenal Observatory Lodge like for instance Birding: with over 350 species of birds that have been spotted in the area. Waterfall Trail: one of the most popular trails, a short, relatively easy walk from the lodge. The half-day hike: Crosses a still-steaming lava flow from 1992, where tourists learn about key aspects of Arenal Volcano. The Old Lava Trail: You can travel this path without a guide, leaving from the hotel and climbing down to the Agua Caliente River. From this point on, the path is in a high risk zone that leads to the foot of the volcano. Walking Trails: The rich volcanic soil supports primary and secondary rainforest teeming with birds, butterflies, mammals and reptiles. Spring-fed Swimming pool and Jacuzzi: You can relax and enjoy a jungle refreshment by the infinity swimming pool.
