The International Airport Juan Santamamría is located just 5 Minutes from Alajuela and the Hostel Maleku is right at its entrance so you don't even have go into Alajuela City.
The Maleku is an Indian Tribe that still teaches their own language in school. They even have a small radio-station where they speak Maleku. They live near the Arenal Volcano and if you go there you should visit them. The Hostel Maleku is the perfect base for your Alajuela adventures if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg. From here you may not only visit the Maleku Indigenous but also the Poás Volcano or the La Paz Waterfalls.
