Arenal is truly is one of the five active volcanoes in Costa Rica. Its very loud and low rumblings can be heard intermittently throughout the day and night. In addition, in clear weather small eruptions can be seen against the night sky. Volcano Lodge is surrounded by many beauties of the nature of the tropical humid forest. You can see Tucans (Ramphastus sulfuratus), (Ramphastus swainsonii), Oropendolas (Montezuma Oropendola), Tangaras (Ramphocelus passerinii) and many other species of birds as well as a Congo-monkey (alouatta palliata). The River La Palma is passing by the lodge.
